The #BIGYELLOWTAG Story

The #BIGYELLOWTAG

The #BIGYELLOWTAG was designed to be iconic and provide users with a sense of familiarity and trust, much like common social media icons like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. When the end user sees a #BIGYELLOWTAG, they know what to do & what to expect.

The Outer Ring

The Tapnbe tags include NFC “Tap”, QR Code and Tapnbe ID. The three combined make the tag universal in that anybody can access the content on any device. The outer ring is succinct directions that show that these 3 methods are available and what to do.

Colors

Contrast is important for the QR Code for two reasons:

  1. it helps a smartphone camera focus
  2. It helps the decoding algorithm work better

Poor contrast can negatively affect performance of a QR Code and frustrate the user. Yellow/Black has great contrast.

Yellow is the color of happiness, and optimism, of enlightenment and creativity, sunshine and spring.

Customization

The #BIGYELLOWTAG was designed with both the end user and our clients in mind. It is designed to just work for both! Having said that we do customize tags for clients (colors, words, etc.) but we make sure they understand why a #BIGYELLOWTAG is a #BIGYELLOWTAG before they go changing it.

Management Of An Endless Stream Of QR Codes and NFC chips

There is no need for clients to generate a QR Code or program an NFC chip, ever with Tapnbe. The #BIGYELLOWTAG(s) are ready-made and mass produced. Every QR Code or NFC chip released to the wild must be managed for as long as they are out there. Check out the epic blunder below by Heinz. This is not necessary or an issue with Tapnbe.

Security

The Tapnbe #BIGYELLOWTAG provides an inherent level of security in the unique design and also some design-in features. Malicious links can always be used, of course, but with the #BIGYELLOWTAG it must be put in by a registered user and they will be dealt with if they violate the terms of use.

QR Code Phishing is also a big issue. In critical OEM type applications the combination of QR Code and NFC in the #BIGYELLOWTAG can be used in unison to validate the QR Code. In our own APP we warn if the QR Code or NFC Tap reference URL does not belong to Tapnbe. Our Acrylic signs also provide a physical level of security in that the #BIGYELLOWTAG is behind the acrylic and hard to place a phony QR Code on top of it without it being apparent.

Summary

The Tapnbe #BIGYELLOWTAG is a natural Do-It-Yourself progression of wonderful smartphone engagement technologies that removes the need for clients to understand the underlying technology and provides a safe and easy way to use this technology to participate in the ever growing mobile economy.
